Spread your premium payments over the riding season with automatic deductions from your bank account. You only pay from March to September, but you’re insured for the full year. That’s seven affordable installments!
What is Pay-As-You-Ride® plan?
It is a payment option that allows you to pay for your motorcycle insurance during the usual riding months and be payment-free during the winter months.
Why is my policy renewal in February (prior to the riding season)?
Both your premium and the payment plan are based on the riding season. The riding season typically runs from late March until early October. Therefore, all of our motorcycle policies are renewed at the beginning of the year, in the months preceding the riding season, between January 29th and March 1st.
Why is my first payment in March? Why does the riding season start so early?
Pay-As-You-Ride motorcycle policy premiums are paid during the riding season. As spring approaches many motorcycle owners begin thinking about getting their motorcycles registered and ready for the road, so that’s when payments begin. Payments run for seven months and end in September, just before motorcycles are stored for the winter. Refer to your invoice for more information.
Why seven payments?
No one likes to pay for something they aren’t using. That’s why we divide the motorcycle premium over the first seven months of the riding season. While coverage is in force for 12 months, payments are only made from March to September, leaving the winter months payment-free.
What is seasonal rating?
Seasonal rating is a way of calculating insurance premiums which takes into consideration that a motorcycle is usually only used for part of the year. So, while coverage is in place for the full 12 months, the premiums are reduced to factor in the winter months when a motorcycle is usually off the road. For motorcycles, the premium is charged for the months of March-October.

I usually take my bike off the road from October until April. Can I have comprehensive coverage during that time only? Your motorcycle policy provides coverage for the entire year but is seasonally rated. Because these premiums are calculated based on a typical riding season, removing or cancelling coverage during the winter months does not result in any premium savings. Instead, clients benefit from having the peace of mind of year-round coverage, allowing riders to enjoy their motorcycles on warm, dry winter days.
What if I make changes that will affect my policy, such as buying a new bike?
During the riding season the change in premium would be seasonally rated and any difference would be adjusted equally on the remaining payments. Should you purchase a new bike during the winter months, there may be no additional cost to you. However, upon renewal your 12-month premium would be based on the new motorcycle and payments would be spread over seven months.
Why was my premium lower the first year?
If your new policy last year started at the end of the riding season, only a small portion of the premium was required. Your new premium represents the full riding season. Your new premium will be divided into seven payments and you will benefit from not having to pay during the winter months.
Can I be on a different payment plan?
The Pay-As-You-Ride plan is designed to make it easier for our clients to pay as they ride and enjoy the security of being insured for 12 months, with no payments during the non-riding season. However, upon renewal you can opt to pay in full.
Can I use my credit card to pay my premium?
We accept credit card payments if paying in full. Please contact your local service centre and we will be happy to process this for you.
